Fishbowl Put 4-6 chairs in a circle in the middle of your room, with a bowl of questions in the middle (see attached for questions). Have students from different exoneree groups sit in the chairs, while students on the outside Òkeep score.Ó Discussants pull a question out of the bowl, discuss answers and then put it to the side. Groups can go for 3 or 4 minutes if this is their first fishbowl activity, or for longer if time and interest allow. Have all students go through fishbowl discussion.
To ensure members talk and encourage conversation, write the Òscore-keepingÓ rules on the board (see attached) and after every fishbowl session, take a few minutes to process the previous conversation. Students on the outside keep score and turn in their score sheets at the end.
A note on fishbowls: There are lots of different ways to run this activity. Some teachers have students vacate chairs when they want, donÕt require all students to participate, have ÒoutsideÓ students follow just one participantÕs comments, etc. |
