Surviving Justice
America's Wrongfully Convicted and Exonerated

In Surviving Justice: America’s Wrongfully Convicted and Exonerated, thirteen exonerees describe their experiences—the events that led to their convictions, their years in prison, and their new lives outside. Each oral history is a stark account of our criminal justice system’s unforgivable flaws. Sidebars interspersed throughout the book offer context for their cases and the broader problem, with information on the causes of wrongful convictions and on the obstacles exonerees face in jail and after their release. Surviving Justice is an attempt to expose a disgraceful situation that continues throughout our country—men and women sent to prison for someone else’s crime.

Voices From The Storm
The People of New Orleans on Hurricane Katrina and Its Aftermath

In the late summer of 2005, Hurricane Katrina ravaged the Gulf Coast, leveling entire cities and leaving others under vast amounts of water. Thousands of Americans were stranded on rooftops and in dangerous makeshift shelters. Stranded in a city submerged, the narrators of Voices from the Storm survived the devastation brought on by Hurricane Katrina only to find themselves abandoned—and even victimized—by their own government. These thirteen men and women of New Orleans recount, in astonishing and heartrending detail, the worst natural disaster in American history.
